Livable Housing NCC and LHDG

What is the Livable Housing Design Guideline?

The Livable Housing Design Guidelines (LHDG) are a set of standards that help make homes more accessible, safe, and comfortable for people of all ages and abilities. Developed by Livable Housing Australia (LHA), the guidelines provide practical solutions for creating homes that can adapt as residents’ needs change.

They cover 15 key design elements, including entrances, doorways, bathrooms, kitchens, and living spaces, with three performance levels – Silver, Gold, and Platinum – to guide builders and designers in achieving different degrees of accessibility.

By following these guidelines, homes become more inclusive, future-proof, and easier to live in, supporting independence and comfort for everyone.
